One of the Best Alaska National Parks

There are 3 main areas of Kenai Fjords National Park in Seward. Exit Glacier, where you can trace the path of a receding glacier, Harding Icefield, a great place to get a glimpse of the last ice age, and the dynamic coast area. All of these areas make up one of the best Alaska National Parks with a diversity of landscapes and habitats. While there are some opportunities for hiking in Kenai Fjords National Park, most of the park is made up of snow, ice, and water. Fortunately, there are many ways in which to see this jaw-dropping place up close. Here are 5 ways to see one of the best Alaska National Parks this summer!

  1. A great introduction to one of the best Alaska National Parks, Kenai Fjords, is by going on the 2 main hikes offered in the park. The Exit Glacier Area is the only part that is accessible by road and here you will find the Exit Glacier Nature Center where you’ll find informative exhibits and a ranger for any and all questions. From here you can either choose to hike along the Glacier View Loop Trail or continue on to the Glacier Overlook Trail to get an up-close view of an actively receding glacier. The Harding Icefield is a longer, more challenging hike but well worth the effort to get up above Exit Glacier and look out over a vast expanse of ice and snow.
  2. If you are looking to get out on the water to view Kenai Fjords’ stunning landscape and spot abundant wildlife, there are several boat tours and cruises available to take. The waters of Resurrection Bay and the Gulf of Alaska provide the opportunity to see towering tidewater glaciers pour down into the sea. You can spot several species of birds and marine mammals who find these waters rich in nutrients. Major Marine Tours, Kenai Fjords Tours, and Seward Ocean Excursions, all offer multiple full or half-day cruises to fit with your schedule.
