What is GAF fish? Guided Angler Fish is an avenue for the charter company to provide Halibut fishing on closed halibut days. The Catch Sharing Plan authorizes transfers of commercial halibut individual fishing quota (IFQ) as guided angler fish (GAF) to qualified charter halibut permit holders for harvest by charter vessel anglers in Areas 3A. The price varies from year to year based on commercial dock prices. Puffin offers these trips as a ONE halibut retention in the month of July and early August. Individuals or groups that would like to take advantage of our GAF days must contact us directly.
We ask you to meet us at the Alaska Seafood Grill between 5:30am to 5:45am. The Grill will open at 5am and have coffee, quick breakfast options. Our crew will meet you there and walk you down to the boats. We will leave the dock promptly at 6am, returning between 4:30 and 6pm.
You must purchase a fishing license prior to your trip. If on a King Salmon combo you must purchase a King Salmon Stamp.

In addition to a fishing license, you will need to bring food and beverages. We recommend you wear warm, layered clothing and water-resistant shoes-boots, and bring raingear, hat, gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses, and seasickness remedies. You might want to bring a camera and binoculars, as well. No large coolers please, You’re welcome to bring a small cooler for your lunch, if you’d like.
There is a 7% tax and a $3.50/person head tax.
Fuel Surcharge 2023:
– UNDER $5.00 PER GALLON: NO SURCHARGE
– $5.00 – $5.25 PER GALLON: $10 PER PERSON PER DAY
– $5.26 – $5.75 PER GALLON: $20 PER PERSON PER DAY
– $5.76 – 6.25 PER GALLON: $30 PER PERSON PER DAY
